  • Chiropractors Plan to Appeal Trigon Ruling

RICHMOND, VA (Chiro Wire) Chiropractic plaintiffs will “vigorously appeal” the unfavorable ruling made April 25 in a federal antitrust lawsuit against Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Southeast region.

That’s how American Chiropractic Association (ACA), Virginia Chiropractic Association (VCA), and other chiropractors plan to respond to the decision made by Judge James P. Jones of the U.S. District Court in Abingdon. The Court ruled to dismiss all of the plaintiffs’ claims — including antitrust conspiracy, state law conspiracy and monopolization — prior to trial.

In response, the plaintiffs “refuse to capitulate” to a decision that “turns existing antitrust law on its head,” continues the press release from ACA. The release also compares the successful appeal in precedent case Wilk vs. AMA to the appeal planned for this case. The plaintiffs in the latter are similarly certain they have a strong legal basis supporting their decision.

ACA Holds Successful Meeting With Carriers

ARLINGTON, VA (Chiro Wire) Both chiropractors and insurers will be pleased to hear about the “breakthrough in relations” the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) claims they reached with major insurance carriers during a recent meeting.

The Claims Solutions Work Group (CSWG), a convention held since 1999, brought together senior-level claims executives from carriers such as Blue Cross Blue Shield and the Erie Insurance Group. The insurance representatives presented more questions and demonstrated increased curiosity in chiropractic care this year, according to a statement from ACA.

“No longer are carriers simply discussing chiropractic claims issues…they want to know everything from how we care for our patients to our vision of a wellness-based health care model,” stated John Gentile, chairman of ACA’s Insurance and Managed Care committee.

For more on the meetings, contact Patrick Bernat or Felicity Feather of the American Chiropractic Association at 1-800-986-4636.
