Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Pepin Heart Hospital are among the first to implement innovative solution
McLean, VA--Care Fusion announced today a reseller agreement with GE Healthcare in which GE Healthcare will offer Wireless CareAssist in conjunction with DINAMAP ProCare and Pro Series monitors to commercial hospitals nationwide. The solution will provide workflow benefits to the clinician and improved safety for the patients.
wCareAssist, which runs on a handheld device, allows clinicians to download patient vital signs from DINAMAP ProCare and Pro Series monitors into an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) without manual transcription and without moving an entire workstation to the patient's bedside. The application software utilizes barcode technology to verify patient identification information and can be programmed to perform continuous patient monitoring automatically, recording the history of the patient's vitals and then sending information wirelessly to an EMR.
By directly transferring patient data to the EMR, wCareAssist simplifies the process of vital sign recordings, which requires clinicians to manually enter patient information several times on paper charts before finally adding them into the EMR. Removing these extra steps in the process will allow nurses and clinicians to spend more time with patients and less time transcribing data.
The combined Care Fusion-GE Healthcare solution is currently being implemented in hospitals across the nation, including Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ, and Pepin Heart Hospital in Tampa, FL. Pepin Heart Hospital is a new state-of-the art cardiovascular healthcare facility. Pepin searched for solutions with the ability to accurately capture vital signs, document real time and correctly assign these values to the right patient record through positive patient identification (PPID).
"Care Fusion's solution for automating the vital sign collection from DINAMAP monitors is a perfect fit for Pepin Heart with our digital approach to better patient care," said Brigitte Shaw, Chief Information Officer of Pepin Heart Hospital. "There is a great need to automate the collection of vital signs with a process that leverages PPID and does so in a real time environment, allowing our physicians and clinicians immediate access to results."
Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital is the principal teaching hospital of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey's Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. It is also the hub of a clinically-integrated medical campus that includes the Cancer Institute of New Jersey, the Child Health Institute of New Jersey and The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Hospital.
"We are continuously evaluating technology that will ensure quality control and enhance patient care," said Robert Irwin, Chief Information Officer at Robert Wood Johnson. "The GE-Care Fusion solution is a tremendous step forward in the collection of vital signs. By removing the extra steps involved in the process, you not only improve patient safety, but also increase nursing productivity."
