HIPAA, ICD-10, DMEPOS take the spotlight.

Providers can stay up to date on the latest healthcare changes via conference calls hosted by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. See what's coming up:

• HIPAA Version 5010 – What you need to know! CMS will host a national education conference call to address the implementation of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act Version 5010. Agency officials plan to give a general overview of the transition to HIPAA Version 5010 and address some of the exceptions and situations Medicare fee-for-service providers may encounter as the new version is implemented. CMS subject matter experts will be available to answer questions during the call. The agency will post a PowerPoint presentation on the CMS 5010 Web page (www.cms.hhs.gov/ElectronicBullingEDITrans/18_5010D0.asp ) prior to the call.

• ICD-10-CM/PCS Implementation and General Equivalence Mappings (Crosswalks). This conference call will include an overview of the ICD-10 final rule, which requires the implementation of ICD-10-CM/PCS on October 1, 2013; the differences between ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM/PCS codes;  General Equivalence Mappings which will assist in converting policies, edits, and trend data from ICD-9-CM to ICD-10-CM/PCS; and resources to help providers transition from ICD-9-CM to ICD-10-CM/PCS.

• PAOC Meeting on DMEPOS Competitive Bidding. CMS will be hosting a meeting with the Program Advisory and Oversight Committee (PAOC) to discuss the Round 1 Rebid of the Medicare DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program. The agenda will focus on legislative changes mandated by the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 as well as additional process improvements. CMS wants the public's and PAOC committee members' feedback to move forward with the Round 1 Rebid.
